Smut – The podcast for laughs and naughty bits

If you’re not already listening to the Smut podcast, perhaps it’s time you started. I first learned of their program back when the show was half-way through season one, and have been listening ever since. In that time, I have been dying to learn more about the show’s two lovely hosts: Lisa and Michelle. Together, with the help of their talented producer Terry, the team has created a unique blend of comedy, enthralling conversation, and no small amount of NSFW topics to talk about.

After getting in touch with them, I had the honor of getting to talk to them about the show, and to learn more about these talented women.

Tell us about yourselves. How do you all know each other?

LISA: Michelle and I went to the same high school but never knew each other. She was a grade younger than I was. After university, Michelle stalked me or as she puts it she “coincidentally” ended up working for different lawyers but in the same office building. Our offices were side by side and we often found ourselves sharing a laugh or saying inappropriate things to each other and just like that we became fast friends.

How did the idea of the Smut podcast first arise?

MICHELLE: A co-worker of ours who will remain nameless. Let’s just call her Joelle C. No, that’s too obvious, let’s call her J Cant. From her desk, she would overhear our bizarre conversations throughout the work day and often chuckle to herself and work her way into our conversation. She suggested we start a podcast. We shrugged it off at first but the more we thought about it, we got excited about the idea. Both Lisa and I love standup comedy and I’ve always wanted to do it, so a podcast seemed like a good outlet.

Does your content consist of topics you come across organically, content sent to you, or is there a system you have for creating these entertaining conversations?

LISA: I’ll field this question. I do a lot of research on the internet. My search history is not something I’m proud of but once I go down a rabbit hole I find all kinds of weird and wonderful things. Topics can spring out of anywhere. It could be a movie I watched, an article I read, or a conversation I had with a friend. I’m always on the hunt for unusual content. I figure if I find it interesting, then hopefully our listeners will too. We have some very loyal fans of the show and they are pretty quick to forward video clips, articles or topics they want us to cover.

Are there any limits to what you’ll cover on Smut?

MICHELLE: I don’t think any topic would be off limits for the show. We generally like to be sex-positive while still poking fun. After all, it is a comedy podcast. I know Lisa has her own personal limits for the show as she is married and I respect that and admire her for it. Me on the other, just listen to the show and know that I’ll try just about anything once.

Is there a place you envision Smut ultimately growing into?

LISA: With any social media venture these days it is like shouting into the void in the hopes of getting your voice heard. Where do I want this could go? Quitting our day jobs would be the dream. Being able to get paid to do this full time would be amazing. Michelle has always wanted to do stand up comedy so for her, I would love this to be able to springboard her into something like that. For me, I’m pretty private. I don’t crave fame. I’m just having fun.

Something I love about your show is the chemistry between Lisa and Michelle, and it makes me wish I could jump in and join the conversation. Has there been any talk of having guest speakers on the podcast?

MICHELLE: It’s funny you say that we have had a number of people say that they just want to join in on our conversation when they’re listening to the podcast. That’s amazing. We want our listeners to feel like they are tuning in to listen to people they can relate too or that they feel familiar with. Like we’re their friends in a way. Yes, we have had a number of requests from people to be on the show. It is something we will definitely be doing in the near future.

It’s been mentioned a few times that Michelle’s ex never gave her an orgasm. Is this a recurring joke outside the podcast as well?

LISA: Yes. Next question. No seriously, the topic of Michelle not having an orgasm with her ex has taken a bit of a backseat to her current dating life. Some of the young men she has recently dated were a big disappointment. They promise her the moon in the sack but end up being two pump chumps. This is what sparked our episode where we discuss the masturbation coach for men.

Can you tell us what listeners can expect from the Smut podcast in the near future?

MICHELLE: We have some great shows coming up. I don’t want to give away too many details because I think the surprise of the topics is what sparks our listeners’ interests and makes them want to tune in.

LISA: We’ve also invested in some mobile equipment so we can do field recordings. We’d like to go on the road to do interviews, record our escapades. It can be tricky at times, for example we did a summary of Michelle’s erotic photo shoot in a pub afterward but some Aerosmith song was playing in the background and we couldn’t use the piece.

MICHELLE: One listener asked if we’d ever direct a porno and I think that’s really out there for the podcast, but in terms of funding a project like that, it’s a lot of money, so we definitely need listener support.

Is there anything you’d like to add?

LISA: There’s also content on our Patreon page, some for paid members (like Michelle’s erotic photos) and some for everyone. You can find it at https://www.patreon.com/smutpodcast

Thank you both so much for taking the time to do this. It has been an absolute pleasure!

MICHELLE: Thanks for having us, hope your readers can tune in!
