The start of the Smut Marathon

Here we are once again! As we speak, Marie Rebelle of Rebel’s Notes is preparing to send off the first assignment of the 2020 Smut Marathon. For those of you new to this, the Smut Marathon is a year-long competition involving dozens of erotica and smut writers from all over the world, and from all walks of life, to come together and complete a series of writing challenges curated by Marie Rebelle herself. But it’s so much more than a competition.

I participated in 2018 but sat out for 2019. What it became was more of a congregation, a collaboration of ideas, writing styles, and a chance to share our personal projects with a group of people I came to see as friends. And I still appreciate each one of them. Every challenge that was presented to us pushed us to take our writing further than what we knew before. Some of the best improvements to my work were the direct result of everything I learned by taking part in 2018. Who knows what will come of my work this year in 2020.

During this competition, there is a set schedule for the start and end of each round. Along with a one-week voting round immediately following the challenge rounds. Participants will have until the scheduled deadline to write entries of increasing word length that follow unique challenges and prompts. The condition is that we’re not allowed to reveal what the challenge was until after the deadline. And we’re not allowed to disclose which entry belongs to us until after voting has finished.

As for the voting round, this is where you come in. Marie randomizes all of the entries and compiles it onto one page. This will be your chance to read each entry and vote for your favorites. You get three votes if I remember correctly, and it’s recommended that you read all entries before casting your vote. There is a panel of judges as well who will hold a large amount of voting power as well. Each judge is a connoisseur of beautiful erotica and will get to contribute points to each entry as well. Of course, they won’t know which entry belongs to whom either, which means every vote awarded is based entirely on the quality of the work, rather than how many followers and fans a particular writer may have.

Ooooh, I’m excited! There are only about eight hours left until the first round begins, and I can’t wait to find out what challenges we’ll get to have. But for now, I should get to bed. I’ve found that I’ve had less and less drive to write lately, and this would probably give me the right kick in the ass I need to start again. So far, so good.

Wish me luck!

It’s really all thanks to your hard work and dedication to this competition. I don’t know that I would have been able to do it.
