What happened today was a miracle we've been hoping for since 2016. For the first time since Tr*mp took office, a huge percentage of Americans, as well as in other countries around the world, are able to give a collective exhale of relief. People who were marginalized, targeted by hate groups, had promises made to them that were ultimately broken, the forgotten, those who couldn't breathe, those who had their healthcare taken, who had to ration their insulin, who still don't have clean water in Flint, MI. All the people whose lives were threatened and targeted because they didn't fit into a narrow definition of 'TrUe pAtRiOtS' led by a cult that couldn't keep their lies straight, and had the audacity to call these hate groups, 'fine people'. And for the first time, I was able to look at all the hateful vitriol that's posted on social media, and not feel my blood pressure rise.
Here we are once again! As we speak, Marie Rebelle of Rebel's Notes is preparing to send off the first assignment of the 2020 Smut Marathon. For those of you new to this, the Smut Marathon is a year-long competition involving dozens of erotica and smut writers from all over the world, and from all walks of life, to come together and complete a series of writing challenges curated by Marie Rebelle herself. But it's so much more than a competition.
I certainly intended to write this much sooner than I am now, but I've learned just how hectic work life can be around the holidays. Lots of picky eaters and entitled opinions about what I'm making. Seriously, nothing pisses off a chef more than someone insisting on ordering something off-menu. I barely even had the time to let my muscles recover after work! But that's part of the reason I'm writing about this now. I'm looking back at the past year and reflecting on how much I have changed, and how my work has changed in the process.
