Reading this story, I was reminded of something else I’d learned from Stephen King’s memoir, “On Writing”. He said, “If you don’t have the time to read, you don’t have the time or the tools to write”. I had always taken this to heart and came to know that being a good writer means knowing what works and what doesn’t by knowing how others created that written magic we all come to love and get lost in. The best stories really do teach you something you didn’t understand before and helps provide a perspective that makes you think and want to write. I’m reminded of this because “Leather God Descending” is a wonderful example of a story you can get lost in, as well as understand something I wasn’t very familiar with before.
